United Way of the Eastern Upper Peninsula Welcomes New Executive Director

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI – The United Way of the Eastern Upper Peninsula (UWEUP) is pleased to announce the appointment of Kaylynn Cairns as its new Executive Director, effective October 1st, 2025.  

Kaylynn brings over a decade of leadership experience in nonprofit administration, community engagement, and strategic planning. Previously, she served as Family Engagement Specialist for the EUPISD Early Childhood Department, Youth Education & Activities Manager for the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, and Teen Sexual Violence Prevention Education for the Diane Peppler Resource Center.  

“On behalf of the board of directors, we are thrilled to welcome Kaylynn to lead United Way of the EUP,” said Michael Stevens, Board Chair. “Her experience, passion, and vision for collaboration will help guide us into the next chapter of serving families and building stronger communities across Chippewa, Luce, and Mackinac counties.” 

As Executive Director, Kaylynn will oversee UWEUP’s operations, fundraising campaigns, and community partnerships across the region. Key priorities include strengthening support in the organization’s core focus areas of Education, Financial Stability, Health, and Basic Needs, ensuring that local families and individuals have access to meaningful resources. 

“As someone who was born and raised in the Eastern Upper Peninsula, I carry a deep appreciation for the resilience, generosity, and spirit of our community. My lifelong connection to this region has fueled my dedication to supporting local organizations, building opportunities for growth, and ensuring every individual has the chance to succeed. I am honored to step into the role of Executive Director at United Way of the Eastern Upper Peninsula and look forward to working alongside staff, donors, volunteers, and community partners to strengthen resources, deepen connections, and create lasting change for families across Chippewa, Luce, and Mackinac counties.”
